One of the many things that fascinated me as a child were the figureheads, also called figures of the bow.
The figureheads wooden decorations are often human figures or animals, who were on the bow of the ship from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century.
Genoa happened to see some old galleon anchored in port other than the fact that I had seen the magnificent, exposed to the Naval Museum, during a tour with the School.
Even today, in the Old Port, you can see the Galeone Neptune ( became famous because it was the film "Pirates" by Roman Polanski ) Which has on display this:
